A Blazing Scream setup that clears routine enemies comfortably can still expose a damage problem when tougher targets survive its opening casts. At that point, shopping for Diablo IV Items by weapon damage alone misses what makes Elegy worth considering: the sword changes how the skill distributes damage and which equipment effects can support it. The decision is whether your build can exploit those changes without sacrificing its broader progression.

Fix the Skill Before Chasing Numbers

Elegy belongs on the shortlist for Warlocks already committed to Blazing Scream. Its Unique effect increases the skill's damage by 30-50%, grants the Skull Splitter Variant for free, and lets its Lesser Demon skulls deal the same damage as the main skull. That last interaction is the defining feature, because it makes the smaller skulls a meaningful component of the attack rather than something to overlook.

This does not establish a universal damage increase for every encounter. Target positioning and the number of skulls that connect still matter when judging actual results. Players should distinguish the listed multiplier from the practical benefit of changing the smaller skulls. A strong tooltip is useful; consistently applying the improved attack is what justifies building around it.

For early progression, treat Elegy as a direction rather than a requirement. Before the sword drops, avoid committing upgrade resources to supporting equipment solely because it might suit a future version of the build. During the middle stages, an acquired copy provides a concrete reason to evaluate a more focused Blazing Scream setup.

Make Each Lord Zir Attempt Count

Lord Zir is the target boss for Elegy, with his encounter located in The Darkened Way, east of Kyovashad in Fractured Peaks. The supplied Season 15 route requires Torment 1 or higher: defeat him, then spend one Lair Key to open the reward hoard. Elegy is only a possible reward, so access to the encounter should not be confused with a guaranteed upgrade.

Confirm that Blazing Scream is the skill you want to develop before directing repeated attempts toward Elegy.
Reserve the required Lair Key for the reward hoard rather than planning around the boss defeat alone.
Evaluate every usable sword before spending further resources pursuing a better version.

Combining five Exquisite Blood in the Horadric Cube offers another route to a random Unique from Lord Zir's dedicated pool. It does not select Elegy directly. This option makes more sense when several outcomes would help your character; if only the sword matters, recognize that the recipe still carries uncertainty. Neither route has a supplied drop rate that supports declaring it more efficient.

Compare Copies Without Tooltip Tunnel Vision

Elegy includes +2-3 ranks to Blazing Scream, but those ranks are only one part of the comparison. Check weapon damage and the 30-50% Unique multiplier separately. A copy with the stronger rank roll can still have a weaker multiplier, leaving a tradeoff that one highlighted number cannot settle.

The supplied 900 Item Power example has 1,727 damage per second before upgrades and 1.10 attacks per second. Another snapshot shows 1,087 damage per second at the same attack speed, but lacks an equivalent established Item Power. These are not competing fixed baselines. Compare the actual items under equivalent conditions before treating the larger displayed number as decisive.

Build Around the Connection, Not the Label

In its described Season 15 form, Elegy also makes Blazing Scream an Archfiend Skill. That connects it to Infernal Homunculus, whose effect increases Archfiend Skill damage by 80-110% and activates relevant Lesser Demon Upgrades for free, with 200% longer durations. For late progression, this interaction gives a focused build a clearer equipment direction.

The described mechanics support a PvE damage plan, not a proven PvP recommendation. Players comparing D4 items should prioritize this pairing when Blazing Scream is central to their setup, while preserving resources if their preferred playstyle depends on other skills. Secure a functional version first; pursue stronger rolls only after the combination earns its place in actual encounters.
