If you're weighing up where to spend your MLB The Show 26 Stubs, give the three Topps Update Series programs a look first. Black Gold, Autumn Ascensions, and Heavy Lumber arrived on October 14, with each track offering four 99 OVR cards across 40 program points. That's twelve cards to work toward without making every roster upgrade a market purchase. The real draw isn't just the ratings, though. These programs share a Bobby Witt Jr. Parallel XP objective, so you don't have to treat them as three separate grinds.
Pick the rewards your lineup actually needs
Black Gold features Kevin McGonigle, Chase Burns, Samuel Basallo, and Paul Skenes. Autumn Ascensions brings Trey Yesavage, JJ Wetherholt, Konnor Griffin, and Julio Rodríguez. Heavy Lumber offers Bryce Eldridge, Sal Stewart, Honus Wagner, and Tony Gwynn. Before choosing where to focus, check your bench and rotation as well as your starting nine. Another hitter might be tempting, but a catcher or starter could fill a bigger hole. All twelve belong to the 2026 Topps Update Series, not Live Series or any of the other card series.
Keep Bobby Witt Jr in the lineup
The simplest starting point is a Bobby Witt Jr. card you already own. Any version works for the shared Parallel XP missions, letting the same playing time contribute toward all three programs. Then look through the individual requirements before starting a game. Named-player tasks and statistical objectives are easier to manage when your lineup is built around them. Ranked, Events, Mini Seasons, Conquest, Diamond Quest, and Play vs CPU give you options. Pick a mode you enjoy rather than forcing yourself through games you'll want to quit.
Make each session do a little more
There's no need to clear one entire program before touching another. Work through Moments alongside the PXP requirements, then use your regular games to cover overlapping objectives. As reward cards unlock, claim them and slot the useful ones into your squad so their Parallel XP can start building. Don't replace a mission player before checking whether you still need them, though. Those same sessions can also move the 8th Inning XP Path and, where applicable, Multiplayer Program 8 forward. Check each track's requirements before deciding what to play next.
Leave room for cards that suit you
A 99 OVR badge doesn't settle every roster decision. Look at positional coverage, how comfortable you feel using a card, and whether you'll keep playing it long enough to develop its Parallel levels. These rewards won't satisfy Spotlight or Moonshot collection requirements, so keep those goals separate. If you're saving MLB 26 Stubs for a particular upgrade, the free Topps Update cards could cover another position while you wait. Start with Witt, keep an eye on unfinished missions, and give the new arrivals a fair run before changing your team again.
